The Yokohama Noh Theater’s main stage was built in 1875 for the estate of former lord of the Kaga domain and was later moved to the estate of former lord of Takamatsu domain, where it was known as the Somei Noh Stage. The stage was later dismantled. Currently the stage is restored using the original components.
Yokohama Noh Theater has a second stage as well as studio rooms for rehearsals and classes. The theater hold regular exhibition of Noh and Kyogen’s costumes and musical instruments, and occasionally hold special exhibition regarding Japanese traditional arts.

The main stage is used for performances, presentations, and rehearsals of Noh, Kyogen, and other traditional Japanese performing arts.
Noh stage: 5.91 meters square
Hashi-gakari: 2.42 meters wide and 10.26 meters long
Kagami-no-ma: 33 m2
Shozoku-no-ma: 16.5 m2
Hoji-shitsu: 6.7 m2
Audience seating: The theater seats 486
(including 5 spaces for wheelchair use)
The second stage is used for practicing and presenting Noh, Kyogen, and other traditional Japanese performing arts.
Stage: Area of the stage is the same as the main stage
Backstage rooms: two Japanese-style rooms (each 10 m2)
Audience Seating: Accommodate about 60 people on carpet.
The studio rooms serve as common rooms during performances and are also used for practicing Noh, Kyogen, and other traditional Japanese performing arts.
Rooms: Four rooms, each 20 m2 in area. One has a wooden floor.
The dressing rooms are used during performances on the main stage. When not in use for performances, they are available for practicing Noh, Kyogen, and other traditional Japanese performing arts.

Lobby space (inclusive of two foyers)
It is an atrium in a traditional architectural style, composed of wooden columns, beams, and lattices. Skylights are installed in the center, which is rare in Noh theaters, and you can enjoy the light changes as time passes.
Area: approx. 160m2 (approx. 300m2 when including two foyers)
Capacity: approx. 300 guests (standing)
White coffered ceiling and windows are impressive in this space. The cedar ceiling from the former Somei Noh stage is relocated to build this room, and its interior is a blend of modern and traditional.

Capacity: 45 guests (seated), approx. 60 guests (standing)
Minimum rental duration is 4 hours.

- When to apply
Standard Party Package: Between the Second Sunday of the month, which is 12 months before the day of hiring belongs to, and 2 months before the day. (First come, first served).
Hire-Whole-Facility Party Package: Between the Second Sunday of the month, which is 24 months before the day of hiring belongs to, and 2 months before the day. (First come, first served).

We accept bookings at the theater or by phone. Please submit an “application form” with the hire fees within a month from booking.
